How To Volunteer

We welcome volunteers at Buncombe Alternatives, Inc. All volunteers must fill out an application form and adult volunteers must submit to a background check.

Teen Court:
Youth volunteers must be between the ages of 13-18 and must maintain a C average in school. All general youth volunteers are expected to complete a volunteer application, be given the basic volunteer orientation manual, and observe at least one teen court hearing before becoming an official volunteer. All youth volunteers must adhere to a dress code and agree to treat each hearing with complete confidentiality.

Adult volunteers are recruited as judges and as additional help during teen court hearings. All adult volunteers must fill out a volunteer application, have a background check, and fill out a confidentiality and conflict of interest agreement.

For all volunteer opportunities through Teen Court, please contact Jamie Lee McNabb at (828)707-2113 or

 Earn & Learn:
Adult volunteers are welcome in the Earn & Learn program. These volunteers will assist with staff supervised work groups and work with youth actively involved in our program.

We also consider our community service locations to be volunteers. If you work for a non-profit or local business and are interested in letting our clients complete community service with you, we would welcome the opportunity to form a partnership.

For all volunteer opportunities through Earn & Learn, please contact Juan Holladay at (828)707-3800 or
